"We believe everybody has the right to get involved in writing - no matter what their background. Wordsmithery's events and projects reflect this belief."
Wordsmithery is an independent literary arts organisation and publisher run by Sam Hall and Barry
Fentiman. Sam and Barry have both been writing since childhood;
Wordsmithery was founded with the aim of encouraging more people to get into writing and reading, and to work on interesting literary projects with individuals and community groups.
Sam is as a playwright and former journalist and editor, and she has experience of both publishing production and literature development (helping people to develop their writing). Barry is a poet with an interest in site specific writing.
Since starting Wordsmithery, Sam and Barry have managed over 100 literature projects and events in Kent and London: ranging from open mics; to interactive literary games; writing workshops; The WordShed - possibly the world's smallest writing retreat; a regular theatre showcase and a regular live literature night in Chatham; Roundabout Nights.
Wordsmithery works with other writers and artists on a project-by-project basis depending on what is required. We have a strong belief that everybody has the right to get involved in writing - no matter what their background. Wordsmithery's events and projects reflect this belief.
Our innovative literary projects and the organisation have been acknowledged; in 2012, our writing collective ME4Writers was highly commended in the Medway Culture and Design Awards; in 2015 Wordsmithery won the Medway Culture, design and tourism award for Literature; in 2016, we were a finalist for Publishing in the Kent Creative Awards.
